I had no idea I had an interest in health and healing until 2004. I was working random menial jobs and knew I had to do better for myself. That led me to the days of looking in the classifieds on The Star Phoenix and there was a well-placed, eye-catching grab of an ad for Massage Therapy at McKay Career Campus. Next thing I knew I was enrolled for the January start date with a completion of December 2006.
It was my fascination with Myofascial Release that prompted me to attend seminars in California, Washington and Kentucky within the first two years of graduation. Although we learn the basics in school including anatomy, physiology and hard sciences I knew there was a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ I wasn’t quite understanding. Over the following years I came to understand there was a strong energetic component involved in Massage Therapy. It wasn’t until 2020 that I started to think about how I can use this energetic component to help clients. The importance and necessity of Massage Therapy became absolutely clear to me. As much as there can be a strained muscle, we have to look at why that muscle is strained and what factors are not allowing it to heal.
Our ‘fight or flight’ systems have to be de-activated to heal. If we’re always stuck in a heightened awareness, we’ll forever be pushing the gas and the brakes at the same time. We’ve all been through trauma and the body remembers. The muscle memory works to keep areas tight to protect long after the trauma has vanished. That same muscle memory can be tamed with targeted, firm pressure. It’s as though the ‘dis-ease’ has melted through the body and is there no longer.
My continuing education has primarily been in Myofascial Release, but I am now transitioning to include a more energetic basis. Every one of us holds tremendous power and with that comes great responsibility. Imagine the power we innately hold to love, empower, motivate and heal. That, right there, is the beauty in Massage Therapy.
As a Registered Massage Therapist, I’m here to help, not to hurt. I’m here to facilitate the healing you will accomplish. My intent is that my education and experience over the past 10+ years can make a difference in your life.
