Our latest gallery exhibition features Blanche Johnston, a professional artist who lives near Beaver Creek, Saskatchewan.

Running from October through December, the exhibition invites you to explore Blanche’s colourful collection, Floral Awakening. Join Blanche for an Open House on Sunday, November 1, from 2–4 p.m.

Blanche works in a variety of media, including acrylic, oil, watercolour, and dry media, creating layers of smooth and impasto textures on surfaces such as deep-sided canvases and cradled birch panels. During the summer months, she also explores encaustic painting, a process that uses beeswax and damar resin.

Inspired by the landscape surrounding her home and the places she encounters in her travels, Blanche’s work reflects a deep curiosity about place and time. She sees art as occupying a space between past and present, here and there, you and me. She often contemplates those who walked before us and the layers of life that lie beneath the images she paints—a kind of historical underpainting.

“I walk a path as ancient shadows wake; with a pulse of flowers beneath my feet.”
