A Live Webinar was hosted by the U of A Faculty of Native Studies Thursday, March 11, 2021
What does it mean to be an Indigenous, two-spirit person in today’s society? For those who are, they are simply being human. But for many other people who are neither Indigenous or two-spirit, this existence is seen as a political act.

Indigenous, LGBTQ2+ advocates and Amazing Race Canada winners James Makokis and Anthony Johnson presented a live webinar during U of A Pride Week. They shared their lived experiences as modern day warriors performing everyday acts of resistance and assertion of Indigenous sovereignty.
Their inspirational talk gave perspective on how intergenerational trauma, systemic oppression, resilience and a cultural approach to living have shaped the lives of Makokis and Johnson.
This webinar was live and not recorded but we are including two links here that highlight their stories.
