Run to the Hills!, November 15 • 6 - 8 pm: Register Here
Featuring works by Christian Chapman Curated by Dani Printup, Carleton University. Working within the Woodland style, Chapman draws on Anishinaabe storytelling to activate parallels between ancestral knowledge, popular culture, and contemporary Indigenous experience. Through humour, critique, and visual experimentation, he reimagines inherited stories to deepen what this tradition can hold. The title references Iron Maiden’s 1982 single and Chapman’s 2017 print, “Fight for Your Life,” a deliberate encounter between heavy metal and Indigenous resistance that insists upon visibility, noise, and refusal.
Coming Back, November 22 • 6 - 8 pm: Register Here
Coming Back captures the essence of full-circle moments in Jerry Whitehead's life – returning to Wanuskewin after many years, a revival of early artistic styles, and a feeling of deep spiritual connection to the return of the Bison to the land. These powerful themes are the forces behind Coming Back, a vibrant celebration of Plains Cree culture that sets Whitehead’s iconic powwow dancers in motion.
