One afternoon, I found myself tapping several parts of my body and face. I was at home, alone, so nobody could wander in and ask me what on Earth I was doing. On the other side of my screen was an expert who was giving me an experiential "show and tell" about the therapy she practices.
I was having a small taster of something called tapping therapy, which is also referred to as emotional freedom technique (or EFT for short). It's a therapy that can ease anxiety and stress, and reduce the impact of traumatic memories. It involves using your own fingers to tap pressure points on your body. Numerous studies have found that tapping these specific points can help to improve mental health.
When I first heard about tapping therapy, I must confess I was a little sceptical. Digging into the scientific literature, however, I found many peer-reviewed studies that show numerous benefits.
